Biography: Dr. Alvaro Balcazar it was the Director of the International Vascular Institute (IVI) in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He is also the Coordinator of Endovascular Surgery at the Clínica Cemes in La Paz, Bolivia and Vascular Surgeon Consultant at the American Embassy in Bolivia. He has served as a Professor at the San Andres University School of Medicine also in La Paz. Before returning to his country in 2013 after working overseas for many years, Dr. Balcazar served as Consultant Vascular Surgeon of the Vascular & Interventional Surgery Department at the Torrevieja and Vinalopo Hospital in Alicante, Spain. Dr. Balcazar received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Mexico and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas and his complete Vascular Surgery Residency programan in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Complutense University of Madrid’s, University San Carlos Clinical Hospital. in Madrid, Spain. Dr. Balcazar is recognized as the pioneer of Endovascular Surgery in Bolivia and has devoted many years of his life to vascular intervention in the country. In 1999, he implanted the first endoprosthesis for aortic aneurysm and thoracic abdominal in Bolivia. At the present he is Associate Medical Director - Editorial Board Member of the European Journal of Endovascular Techniques. He has held executive board titles at many scientific societies and committees including the Presidency of the International Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, Presidency of the Latin American Association of Vascular Surgery and Angiology, and Presidency of the Bolivian Society of Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular Surgery. At the present he is Council Board Member of the World Federation of Vascular Socities (WFVS)
