Abstract:
Although industries are the major contributor in the economy of Bangladesh rather Industrial waste is becoming a threat to environment and affecting the human civilization. Extensive industrial activity is the main offender of pollution and ecosystem damage. Rapid industrialization has increased the quantities of wastes and wastewaters containing high pollutants. These ever increasing industrial wastes both in form of solid & liquid are degrading aquatic & terrestrial ecosystem. In this context, it is essential to introduce efficient industrial waste management and supreme monitoring for clean development. Specially to save our precious water sector, appropriate methodologies should be adopted to treat the wastewater released from the industries. Formation of the GIS based industrial clusters can promote better monitoring and waste management on this follow through. Industrial Clusters are the groups of inter-related industries. Geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present different types of data. The study was conducted to develop GIS based industrial map of Gazipur BSCIC area with important environmental attributes through GPS and questionnaire survey. So, following the study an industrial map focusing the types of waste water of the existing industries of BSCIC area has been prepared. This map eventually will promote a better monitoring opportunity over the water sector in the context of industrial waste water disposal to the water bodies.
