Name: Dr. Hameed Akbar
Educational Qualification: Ph.D.
Designation: Research Fellow
Department: Department of Cell Biology
University: University of Science and Technology of China
Email: hameedakbar4181@mail.ustc.edu.cn
Research Interests: Research interest is wide spread from cancer biology, therapeutic intervention, biomarker discovery to cellular biology, genomics and proteomics. Particularly, he is engaged in unraveling the mechanistic insights behind the formation and regulation of a specific biomolecular condensate and phase separated body at the onset of mitosis and its functional relevance in disease state and progression and more importantly in virus trafficking. Phase separation of macromolecules, predominantly proteins either alone or often with nucleic acids that results in different material states i.e. liquid, gel and solid is a more recent and novel field of interest in cell biology arena. The modern cellular biologists are striving hard using both emerging and existing cutting-edge tools and techniques to reveal all the secrets of biomolecular condensates which surface both in normal and abnormal cells for execution of indispensable non-erroneous biological processes and compromising these spatiotemporally separated discrete functions, respectively. However, insufficient known mechanistic insights of phase separated entities are currently outwitting us about their appearance and purpose.
Biography: Hameed Akbar was born in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, he was raised in Pakistan for acquiring education from some of the eminent colleges and universities. After completing his bachelor’s studies in biotechnology, he opted for graduate studies from University of Westminster at the heart of London. Post completion of my graduate studies, he served as a research assistant till January, 2013 in the same laboratory where he completed his MSc project. The next five years he utilized shaping his future by engaging and serving in healthcare arena alongside raising a lovely family. Finally, he moved back to a premise more congenial for my inherited questing caliber and joined University of Science and Technology of China, ranks in top 100 of the world universities, for doctorate studies in 2017. He is proud to be a part of world-wide community that pushes knowledge forward. From this time onward, he is looking to take his knowledge and expertise to new exciting places.
