Biography: Professor Laila Metwally Sherief has been a long-serving member of the Zagazig University community in Egypt. She first graduated with honours from the University in 1984. She then went on to do her internship and residency there before becoming a lecturer, an Associate Professor then a Professor in Paediatric in the Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Sherief has been the Principal Investigator for three clinical trials and project, including lead investigator at the Zagazig site of a multicentre, international trial comparing deferiprone and deferasirox in paediatric patients affected by transfusional iron overload. She has published extensively in national/international medical journals and at medical conferences and acts as a Peer Reviewer for 18 international journals, including Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Pediatrics International, Journal of Coagulation& fibrinolysis , Medicine and Cancer Chemotherapy & Pharmacology. Prof. Sherief frequently attends national and international conferences and maintains memberships in the following professional societies International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), International Society of Haemostatis and Thrombosis (ISTH), Pan Arabic Society of Paediatric Oncology (PASPO), Egyptian Society of Haematology & Oncology (ESPHO), the Egyptian Universities Promotion Committee (EUPC) responsible for the accreditation of Paediatric specialists, and the Egyptian societies of Paediatric Haematology; Paediatrics; and Thalassemia
