Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases Control a) Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS b) Community sensitization on the prevention of hypertension, diabetes etc c) Clinical trial: antimalarial drug efficacy studies; genetic determinants to artemisinin resistant falciparum malaria, malaria in children and pregnant women. d) Immune responses to malaria. Assessing immune responses of residents of malaria endemic areas using malaria antigens to better understand the pattern of humoral and cellular immunity acquired as a result of exposure to natural infection by malaria parasites. e) Malaria and co-infections. Examining malaria, helminthes co-infection with the objective of understanding disease interaction and pathogenesis and how these can influence vaccine development. 2. Reproductive Health a) Adolescent pregnancy: Pregnancy outcomes and Risk factors b) Use of contraceptives 3. Occupational/environmental Toxicology. a) Assessing the level of organ toxicity due to exposure to pesticides and other chemicals
Biography: Marcelus U. Ajonina holds a PhD in Public Health from Charisma University, British West Indies, a Master degree in Biochemistry and a Bachelor degree in Biochemistry from the University of Buea, Cameroon. His research interests are geared towards control of infectious and non-communicable diseases including malaria, onchocerciasis, HIV/AIDS, hypertension etc, as well as reproductive health education. He has served as an administrator, researcher or lecturer in universities both home and abroad including Savannah State University, Saint Monica University, Catholic University Institute of the Diocese of Buea, Cameroon. He is currently the President and CEO of Meridian Global Education and Research Foundation (MGERF) and the Vice Chancellor of Meridian Global University, Cameroon.
